THE ARTIST:

Rob Helmkamp - North Charleston, South Carolina

As a military brat, Robb was raised all over the country by a career US Navy father and an artist mother.  His work is inspired by both military history and artistic design.  After earning a degree and working in Public Relations, he decided to pursue a different path.  He enrolled in a professional woodworking program and started his own business.

At Kampstudio, Robb makes furniture and home accessories, including tables, benches, boxes, cutting boards, built-ins and one-of-a-kind pieces.  Each piece is made using a combination of machinery and traditional hand tools.  Most items are finished with a hand rubbed oil and varnish mixture.  Eating accessories are finished with a food-safe beeswax based conditioner.
