THE ARTIST:

Nancy Warren - Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Nancy began weaving in 1976, and fell in love. Since then, amidst working full-time and raising two children, she has always found time to weave.

Studing design at the Glassell School of Art in Houston, Texas, and in the ensuing years enjoyed many master classes in weaving. Her interests gradually broadened into other fiber arts: surface design, felting, beadwork and jewelry. She is passionate about keeping ancient art forms and crafts alive. In today’s world of mass production and imported goods, Her pieces are unique, personal expressions of the beautiful within and around us all.

At Charleston Crafts Gallery, her work is represented in three categories: Textiles, Jewelry and Surface design. Her weaving is primarily wearables and accessories, sometimes using her own hand-dyed or painted yarns. Her jewelry designs feature handmade fabric beads, as well as beaded Kumihimo – the ancient Japanese braiding technique. Nancy's surface design pieces are “deconstructed” screen prints; unlike regular screen-printing, each one is unique.

Nancy lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband and cat. Her two grown children live out of state – one in Houston, and one in South Africa. She loves walking on the beach, listening to live music, reading – and of course, creating art.
